The Foundation for Community Empowerment Programme (FOCEP)
Low productivity among farmers and other poor economic actors; climate change, rapid urbanisation among other factors are the causes of poverty, mal-nutrition, food and nutrition insecurity; and poor access to water, sanitation, education and health delivery services.
This trend is creating an increasing burden on society, particularly the very poor communities or the poorest individuals and families within several segments of the Ghanaian society. Ultimately, this has a drawback effect on the macro-economy in terms of jobs, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), foreign exchange earnings etc.
FOCEP seeks to build the resilience, capacities and resourcefulness of individuals, communities and institutions to respond to the growing socio-economic burden on the deprived in our target communities. Very clearly, the challenges are widespread among low income communities (rural, peri-urban and urban), but the predispositions for the prevailing socio-economic challenges are largely dissimilar across deprived or vulnerable social systems.
FOCEP identifies the root causes through a comprehensive problem identification process and provides a bespoke, acceptable and enduring solution. The goal is to ensure poverty reduction, create wealth and facilitate inclusive development. This is achieved through integrated development interventions and across the various socio-economic sectors such as Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); Health, Education and Agriculture; Child protection, Youth empowerment and development as well as Community-Based Rehabilitation initiatives for Persons with Disability (PWDs) among others.
We are therefore guided by the following values:
- Ethical and transparent engagements and development interventions;
- Integrity, honesty and accountability;
- Value addition and sustainable value generation;
- Empowerment of people and communities;
- Operational effectiveness and efficiency;
- Competitive and quality service delivery;
- Support and promotion of human and socio-economic progress;
- Equal opportunities and social inclusivity.
